The Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda People’s Defence Force and Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, on Friday afternoon held a high-level meeting with officials from the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC) to discuss Uganda’s potential role at the upcoming Commonwealth Trade and Investment Summit, scheduled for April 2026 in London.
The meeting, held at the Special Forces Command Headquarters, brought together Gen. Kainerugaba, Lord Swire KCMG, the Deputy Chairman of CWEIC, and AQ Hamza, the organisation’s Chief Commercial Officer and Group Director for International Trade Relations at Equity Group Holdings.
During the discussion, the CWEIC delegation expressed gratitude to the CDF for granting them audience and underscored the value of Uganda’s involvement at the 2026 Summit.
They said Uganda’s participation would open avenues for strengthening investment, building new trade partnerships, and engaging more closely with Commonwealth economies.
The officials emphasised the strategic importance of the summit and expressed hope that Uganda’s top leadership would take part in the high-level event.
In his remarks, Gen. Kainerugaba welcomed the delegation and commended CWEIC for its continued efforts to enhance economic cooperation across the Commonwealth.
He reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to exploring deeper collaboration with the Commonwealth business community, saying such partnerships support both national and regional development priorities.
“Uganda values the strong and historic ties we share with Commonwealth nations. We welcome opportunities that allow us to engage more deeply with the global business community, attract investment, and explore new avenues for cooperation,” he said.
The Commonwealth Trade and Investment Summit is an annual premier forum that brings together senior government representatives, global investors, and industry leaders from across the 56 Commonwealth countries.
The 2026 edition is expected to feature plenary sessions, high-level roundtable discussions, and extensive networking opportunities, drawing influential leaders and decision-makers from across the Commonwealth economic bloc.
