Speaking at the launch of the Tarehe Sita Anniversary activities in Rubanda District on Wednesday, Minister Musasizi traced the nation’s journey from the insecurity of the 1970s—when roadblocks symbolised danger and fear—to today’s orderly checkpoints that ensure public safety.

“Nowadays, when we meet roadblocks, we know we are safe. But in the 70s, meeting a roadblock meant your life was nearing its end,” he said.

He commended President Museveni for transforming the UPDF into a disciplined, people-centred force, enabling Ugandans to travel freely across the country—from Kisoro to Kampala and West Nile—without fear.

Musasizi also humorously acknowledged senior officers who witnessed early liberation activities in Rweru, noting that while the first Tarehe Sita commemorations focused on capturing ground, today’s celebrations reflect unity, peace, and socio-economic progress.

“I urge Ugandans to appreciate the stability the country enjoys and to safeguard the gains of the revolution,” he added.

Rubanda LC5 Chairperson, Stephen Ampaire Kasyaba, praised the UPDF for maintaining peace, particularly along the borders, and encouraged citizens to protect the gains of peace by avoiding unsafe areas.

He also acknowledged the army’s community-focused initiatives that have bolstered local social and economic development.

UPDF Armoured Division Commander, Major General Deus Sande, reiterated the army’s commitment to safeguarding peace and stability.

He highlighted ongoing projects, including new classrooms at Burolero and Hamurwa Primary Schools, the maternity ward extension at Rubaare Health Centre III, and the construction of VIP latrines.
