Residents of Makindye turned out in force at the office of the Resident City Commissioner (RCC) on Monday, demanding answers over delays and discrepancies in the distribution of Parish Development Model (PDM) funds.
Many have reportedly waited three years to receive their full package, only to be told that the one million shillings per beneficiary would now be split between two people.
Residents expressed frustration at what they described as an unfair and opaque process.
“We want to know why we have waited for three years and now they say every two people will get the full money and divide it,” one protester said.
Others said the reduced amounts fall far short of what President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni had promised.
“It is too little. The President said each of us should get a reasonable amount of one million. What they are giving out is not what we were told,” another resident added.
The anger of Makindye residents grew when they learned that some individuals who recently registered had already received the full funds.
“What hurts us most is that people who registered recently have already received money. How is that fair?” a resident questioned.
Several residents also accused local leaders of corruption and favoritism in the distribution process, suggesting that only those with close connections are benefiting.
“I think they only give money to those who look well-connected,” one protester claimed.
Attempts to reach Makindye RCC Mac Baingana for comment were unsuccessful, as he was reportedly out of the office and his phone numbers were switched off.
By evening, many residents remained camped outside the RCC office, demanding accountability and clarity on when and how the full PDM funds would be disbursed.
