Course members of Cohort Four at the National Defence College Uganda (NDC-U) have officially commenced their field study programme with an insightful visit to Luwero Industries Limited (LIL), a subsidiary of the National Enterprises Corporation (NEC), the commercial arm of the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs.

The high-level delegation was led by Brig Gen Kefa Nangeso, the Dean of Studies at NDC-U, and warmly received by Maj Gen Sabiiti Muzeyi, the General Manager of LIL.

During the briefing, Muzeyi highlighted LIL’s pivotal role in Uganda’s socio-economic transformation. He emphasised the industry’s continued investment in innovation, skilling, and human resource development—efforts that he said significantly bolster national security.

“Security is broader than defence alone. It includes economic stability, health, environmental protection and education. Our work at LIL is intentionally aligned to support these critical sector,” Muzeyi said.

Nangeso underscored the strategic importance of the visit to the NDC-U curriculum, explaining that the field study tour is designed to give participants practical exposure that complements the college’s national security training.

“Luwero Industries was deliberately selected because it demonstrates the interconnectedness of industrialisation, technology, education and environmental management—all of which are fundamental pillars of national development,” he said.

The visiting team included senior NDC-U faculty members, among them was Brig Gen Dr Stephen Kusasira, Head of Policy and Strategic Studies; Prof Murindwa Rutanga, Head of Postgraduate Studies; and Col JV Arigye, the College Coordinator.
