Kikuube District Council has approved the master plan for Bunyoro University , following its presentation by officials from the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, which developed it.
The Buhimba Town Council also endorsed the master plan on Friday while on the other side, he plan was also presented to both the Hoima District and Hoima City councils on Wednesday.
The master plan shows the layout of the university’s facilities and the road network within the 100-acre campus.
“The plan shows the locations of key infrastructure, such as the senate building, various schools, staff and student accommodation facilities, underground water and power lines, sports facilities and the green spaces,” Prof. Grace Kyomuhendo Bantebya, the vice chairperson of the Bunyoro University Taskforce Management Committee, and first Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of academic affairs, said.
With approvals secured, Bantebya explained that the plan will be submitted to the Ministry of Education and Sports, which is expected to begin the procurement process for the contractor to establish the university’s facilities.
“This also means that the procurement process for things like furniture and equipment will start,” she stated.
The Buhimba Town Council Mayor, Musa Mugisa, said the community is looking forward to the start of the construction works and the eventual opening of the university.
“As leaders, we are prepared for the university, and we are mobilising to formalise their businesses if they want to provide services to the university,” he stated. “There is already a lot of work going on around the university block in terms of road construction.”
The approval of the plan comes as the Government is nearing completion of the exercise of opening and upgrading existing roads leading to the location of the university.
