Rubaga South Member of Parliament candidate under the Democratic Party (DP) flag, Dorah Nalubega, has outlined her priorities and vision for the constituency, identifying poor service delivery as one of the area’s most pressing challenges.
"Rubaga South faces serious problems in health, education, drainage, road infrastructure, and governance itself. The elected leaders are not sufficiently in touch with the people," Nalubega said.
Speaking during the Rubaga South Parliamentary Debate hosted by NBS Television on Sunday, she further noted that public administration suffers from poor coordination, with many leaders failing to take proactive steps to ensure that government programs reach the intended beneficiaries.
Highlighting her environmental agenda, Nalubega proposed a comprehensive waste management program that would recycle garbage into useful products.
“It is disheartening that waste management is not properly handled in Rubaga South. As an environmentalist, I believe it is important to educate residents on the importance of preserving the environment,” she said.
On employment and labor issues, Nalubega expressed concern about the low wages faced by graduates, describing it as a pressing economic challenge.
“It is disheartening to graduate with a degree and earn only Shs 100,000. I will advocate for a fair Wage Bill to ensure that minimum pay reflects the value of education and skills," she said.
Nalubega also emphasized her commitment to youth empowerment through skills development, noting that many existing programs do not align with market demands.
“I plan to focus on equipping youth with marketable skills that are relevant to today’s economy," she said.
Nalubega is set to face off against a competitive field, including Eugenia Nassolo of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Mbazira Musa of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Alex Bukenya of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), Samuel Walter Lubega Mukaaku of the Democratic Front (DF), as well as independent candidates including veteran legislator John Ken Lukyamuzi, Eng. Musinguzi Ronard, Aloyzious Mukasa, and Mugga Adam Swift.
All contenders are seeking to replace incumbent Aloyzious Mukasa, who has represented the constituency under the NUP ticket since 2021. In the last election, Mukasa beat fourteen other candidates, winning with 49,501 votes.
With just months to go before the elections, the Rubaga South parliamentary seat is poised to become one of the most closely watched contests in the 2026 polls, with candidates emphasizing service delivery, youth empowerment, and economic reforms as key components of their campaigns.
