Ntungamo District Local Government has handed over new ICT equipment to eleven town councils in an effort to streamline local revenue mobilisation and improve digital data systems across urban administrative units.
The computers and printers, supplied by the Ministry of Local Government, are expected to bridge widespread operational gaps that have undermined efficiency at the lower local government level.
Chief Administrative Officer Fildeus Kizza said several town councils have been running digital revenue systems without the necessary hardware, making accurate data management difficult.
“Previously we have had challenges regarding data collection, management, and retrieval because we have had revenue collection and management digitalised but without equipment, it has not been possible for the town councils and other local governments,” Kizza said.
He noted that the introduction of printers will ensure instant receipt issuance.
“It will be easy to assess a client, and when one pays a tax, it becomes very easy to print a receipt and issue it there and then, which has been a challenge to us.”
Kizza urged town clerks to take personal responsibility for safeguarding and properly utilising the new machines, saying their effective deployment will directly influence service delivery outcomes.
Deputy Resident District Commissioner Rosemary Atuhairwe, who witnessed the handover, called on beneficiaries to uphold transparency and integrity in executing their duties.
She said the equipment should translate into improved revenue performance and better services for residents.
“I implore you who are going to receive these computers—make sure that you use them to do the right job. With such equipment, I am very sure that our local revenue is going to improve 100%,” Atuhairwe said.
The computers and printers have been distributed to eleven town councils including Rwamabondo, Nyamunuka, Rubaare, Rwashamaire, and Nyamukana, among others.
District leaders expressed optimism that improved ICT infrastructure will not only boost revenue collection but also enhance transparency, accountability, and operational efficiency across Ntungamo’s urban councils.
