Controversial former socialite Bryan White, born Brian Kirumira, has been remanded to Luzira Upper Prison following a court appearance on Wednesday, two days after he was hospitalised upon being charged.
On Monday, charges including manslaughter and human sacrifice were read to him, but the magistrate did not allow him to plead because the offences are not triable by the magistrates’ court.
Under Ugandan law, such charges can only be tried by the High Court, which holds the appropriate jurisdiction.
At that appearance, Bryan White was sent to hospital after the court observed that his health condition appeared serious.
He remained under medical care until Wednesday when the facility discharged him and he was presented back before court.
The magistrate ordered that he be remanded to Luzira Upper Prison but directed prison authorities to continue providing him with the medication and treatment prescribed by the hospital.
The case will now proceed under committal procedures required for capital or serious offences before transfer to the High Court for trial.
