A claim circulating on X (formerly Twitter) alleging that Next Media Group CEO has withdrawn reporter Hakim Wampamba from Bobi Wine’s campaign in retaliation for the NUP–NBS debate boycott is misleading and unfounded.
The rumour originated from a pro-NUP account Kampala Journal claiming that NBS TV, under Next Media, had recalled its reporter from Bobi Wine’s camp and halted coverage of the candidate.
However, Next Media management has dismissed the allegation. In a statement, the company clarified that the reporter has not been withdrawn and continues to cover the National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate’s campaign across the country.
“NBS TV continues to cover the campaign trail of the National Unity Platform presidential candidate through its bureau chiefs and correspondents nationwide. The reporter in question is currently attending a media training with Deutsche Welle, a Next Media partner. The claim that he was withdrawn following backlash is unfounded and misleading,” the statement reads.
Since the claim surfaced, NBS TV has continued to cover the campaign trail of National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu in its news bulletins and updates.
The DisMisFake News Desk has verified the allegation that the Next Media Group CEO withdrew reporter Hakim Wampamba from Bobi Wine’s campaign in retaliation for the NUP–NBS debate boycott and finds it to be FALSE.
