The Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu (OBR) has launched an ambitious five-year strategic development plan (2025–2026 to 2029–2030) designed to strengthen cultural heritage, boost socio-economic growth, and ensure institutional stability within the Kingdom.
Delivering the Omusinga’s message during the celebrations, Prime Minister Benson Kule Baritazari highlighted that the plan outlines landmark projects focused on fostering peace, unity in diversity, reconciliation, cultural growth, economic empowerment, and mindset change across communities.
“This plan is a roadmap for strengthening our institutions, enhancing cultural identity, and empowering our people socially and economically,” Baritazari said.
The coronation and birthday festivities combined tradition, sports, and community engagement.
Thousands of participants joined a vibrant birthday run featuring 21km, 10km, and 5km categories, symbolising unity, wellness, and the community values championed by the Omusinga.
The celebrations also featured a grand cultural ceremony with performances, speeches, and the formal unveiling of the Kingdom’s long-term development strategies.
Among the flagship initiatives in the five-year plan is the launch of the OBR Radio Station, intended as a central communication platform to strengthen community engagement and promote cultural identity.
“The radio station will enhance our communication flow and amplify messages of cultural heritage, peace, and development,” Baritazari said.
The plan also includes the creation of a one-stop cultural tourism village, aimed at preserving traditional practices, boosting community-based tourism, and stimulating local enterprise growth.
Government support for the Kingdom’s initiatives was pledged by Lt Joe Walusimbi, Resident District Commissioner for Kasese, who represented President Museveni at the event.
“Government appreciates the Kingdom’s efforts towards development, peace, and unity. We shall continue working together for the betterment of our communities,” Walusimbi said, urging subjects to rally behind the projects to strengthen unity, socio-economic stability, and lasting peace.
The coronation and birthday celebrations, coupled with the strategic plan launch, underscored the Kingdom’s commitment to cultural resilience and inclusive development across the Rwenzori region.
