The Police in Kampala Metropolitan have intensified operations targeting criminal hideouts, drug abusers, and habitual offenders in a renewed effort to restore public order and safety across urban and peri-urban areas.
Between November 4th and 5th, 2025, coordinated operations were carried out in several divisions, leading to the arrest of 204 suspects involved in various crimes ranging from drug abuse and theft to public nuisance and violent robberies.
In Kajjansi Division, police conducted operations in Lweza B, Kilyamuli, Akright, and Kawotto, where 44 suspects were arrested for smoking marijuana, theft, and other acts of public nuisance. Two juveniles were also intercepted while attempting to break into a poultry house.
In the Old Kampala Division, security personnel arrested 60 suspects from Namungona, Nakulabye, the New Taxi Park, and Mukwano Roundabout. The suspects were found in possession of breaking implements, suspected narcotics, and were allegedly planning to commit felonies.
Similarly, in Kabalagala Division, 45 suspects were apprehended from Nsamya, Kamwanyi, and Kataba over drug possession and street mugging.
Police in Matugga Division also arrested several individuals along the Matugga–Gulu Highway, Gombe, and Lwadda areas for phone and bag snatching, as well as drug use during evening traffic hours.
In Mukono District, joint operations in Goma and Central Divisions resulted in the arrest of:9 suspects in Katwe–Bukerere,8 suspects at Namave Industrial Park,and 30 suspects from Kitega, Wantoni, Benghazi, and Kikooza.
Meanwhile, in Kira Division, operations conducted in Nsasa and Bulindo led to the arrest of 8 suspects found with exhibits of suspected narcotics.
Police say all the 204 suspects are undergoing screening and will be processed for prosecution in courts of law.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police commended the cooperation of local leaders and community members, noting that their continued information-sharing has been instrumental in dismantling criminal networks across the region.
“We appreciate the vigilance of residents and local leaders who report suspicious individuals and activities. These joint efforts are key in making our communities safer,” police noted.
The crackdown is part of an ongoing campaign to curb rising cases of drug abuse, theft, and street crime in Kampala and surrounding areas.
