Tororo Police Arrest 39 Suspects in Ongoing Crackdown on Crime
Police say the crimes are mostly committed between 7 p.m. and late-night hours, with most suspects aged between 15 and 30 years.

The Territorial Police in Tororo have conducted an intelligence-led operation aimed at curbing the rising crime rate within the district.

The operation was commanded by operations officers under Tororo Central Police Station (CPS).

According to police, the main objective of the operation was to combat criminal activities by targeting identified crime hotspots, dismantling criminal networks, and apprehending suspects believed to be terrorizing the community through house and shop break-ins, theft, and attacks on residents especially during night fundraising events and parties.

During the operation, 39 suspects were arrested and are currently in custody at Tororo CPS.

The Crime Intelligence and Criminal Investigations Department (CID) teams are currently interrogating, screening, and profiling the suspects to establish their level of involvement in criminal acts.

The suspects face holding charges of attempting to commit a felony and being in possession of drugs, as investigations continue under SD Ref: 03/02/11/25.

Police say the crimes are mostly committed between 7 p.m. and late-night hours, with most suspects aged between 15 and 30 years.

Investigations reveal that many of them take cover in bars, lodges, and ungazetted dwellings where they plan their illegal activities.

Areas affected by these criminal activities include Nyangole, Kwapa, Bison, Water Village, Area 40, Jinja Road, Mbale Road, and Morukatipe Road, among others, where bars and lodges have reportedly been used as criminal hideouts.

The operation was executed professionally by police officers, both during and after the exercise.

District police have pledged to continue intelligence-led and disruptive operations, intensify both foot and motorized patrols, and strengthen community policing and engagement to raise public awareness and restore safety in the district.

“We remain committed to working tirelessly to eliminate criminal gangs and ensure lasting peace and security in Tororo District,” said Bukedi South Police Spokesperson, Moses Mugwe.
