Had it been NUP supporters who raided a scheduled rally of NRM candidates, police and the military would have brutally arrested and detained them

Leader of the Opposition and Nakawa West MP Joel Ssenyonyi has accused security forces of failing to act after a group of youth allegedly disrupted a National Unity Platform (NUP) campaign event in Kibuli–Makindye East on Monday.

Ssenyonyi said about five youths arrived at the campaign grounds wearing T-shirts bearing President Yoweri Museveni’s image and carrying his posters, which he described as a deliberate attempt to provoke NUP supporters.

The rally was being held for the party’s parliamentary flag-bearer in the constituency.

According to Ssenyonyi, he and other NUP officials requested the territorial police and military officers present to remove the youths to prevent a potential confrontation, noting that the campaign schedule reserved the venue for NUP at that time.
