A joint security team comprising police, the military, and vigilantes has arrested two men in connection with the possession of a sharp panga in Kireka Biira, Wakiso District.
The suspects, identified as Lumu Jovan and Mawanda Nicholas Kasozi, were arrested in the early hours of November 5, 2025, near the Oilcom petrol station during routine night patrols aimed at curbing criminal activity in the area.
According to police, Lumu was found carrying a newly purchased panga around 2:00 a.m., raising suspicion among security officers. Upon interrogation, he revealed that he and two other accomplices had traveled from Nansana to Kireka Biira on a motorcycle ridden by Mawanda.
However, their journey was interrupted when the motorcycle, registration number UMA 201DQ, developed a flat tire, prompting them to stop for repairs. The patrol team later tracked down and arrested Mawanda, who, along with Lumu, was detained at Bulenga Police Station.
Both suspects are being held on charges of possession of a dangerous weapon, while investigations are underway to locate the other individuals mentioned by Lumu.
Police have also impounded the panga and the motorcycle as exhibits, which will undergo further forensic examination as part of the ongoing investigation.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order and called on the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements in their communities.
