Mr. Bagiire praised the warm and long-standing relations between Uganda and South Korea, emphasizing the need to deepen cooperation through technology transfer and increased investment.

He highlighted four key sectors where Uganda seeks South Korean participation: agro-industrialisation, tourism, mineral development, and science, technology and innovation.

“The partnership with Korea presents an opportunity for Uganda to harness technology and investment that will accelerate our industrial transformation,” Mr Bagiire said.

Mr. Gi-Hyun Kim welcomed Uganda’s proposal and pledged KITA’s full cooperation in organizing the investment meeting, describing it as “a crucial platform to expand trade and strengthen business linkages” between the two nations.

KITA officials urged Uganda to ensure adequate preparation for its business community ahead of the 2026 event to help them effectively engage with the Korean market and attract sustainable investment.

They also encouraged the Government of Uganda to establish a resident embassy in Seoul, noting that a permanent diplomatic presence would boost investor confidence and facilitate smoother bilateral engagement.

Mr Bagiire was accompanied by Uganda’s non-resident Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, Tophace Kaahwa, Minister-Counsellor Mr Nurh Byarufu, and Counsellor Ms Evelyn Ngalonsa.

The forthcoming Uganda–Korea Investment Meeting is expected to provide a major platform for both public and private sector players to explore opportunities in trade, innovation, and industrial partnerships, further cementing relations between Kampala and Seoul.
