The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has congratulated President Paul Biya on his re-election as Cameroon’s head of state, while urging national authorities to engage in inclusive dialogue to promote peace, unity, and stability in the country.
In a statement following the official proclamation of the October 12, 2025, presidential election results by Cameroon’s Constitutional Council, Youssouf commended the Cameroonian people for participating in the democratic process.
At the same time, he expressed concern over reports of post-election violence, repression, and arrests of protesters and political actors.
“I call on all institutional and political actors to exercise restraint and work towards preserving social cohesion, peace, and stability in Cameroon,” the AU Chairperson said.
Youssouf further urged the Cameroonian authorities to prioritize inclusive national dialogue, engaging all political stakeholders in meaningful consultations to achieve consensus in the spirit of national unity and collective security.
Reaffirming the African Union’s commitment to supporting Cameroon, he emphasized that the AU will continue to work with the government and people of Cameroon to strengthen democracy, social justice, and the rule of law.
