The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has called upon the Kabaka’s subjects to elect leaders in the 2026 general elections who are committed to defending and advancing the interests of the Kingdom.
Delivering his message through the Second Deputy Katikkiro, Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa, during the handover of oluwalo (community contributions) from seven sub-counties in the counties of Kyaddondo, Buddu, and Kyaggwe, Mayiga emphasised the need for leaders who are principled, knowledgeable, and aligned with the Kabaka’s vision.
“Buganda needs leaders who understand the Kabaka’s mission, uphold the Kingdom’s dignity, and make decisions that protect our cultural and developmental interests,” Nsibirwa said on behalf of the Katikkiro.
During the event, subjects from the seven sub-counties contributed a total of Shs 69,410,000 to support the Kingdom’s development programs. The breakdown of contributions was as follows:
Mutuba 1 Nangabo (Kyaddondo) – Shs 11,920,000
Mutuba 6 Mukulu wa Kibuga – Shs 2,200,000
Musaale Butenga (Buddu) – Shs 14,030,000
Mutuba 14 Malongo (Buddu) – Shs 2,530,000
Mutuba 5 Kawempe – Shs 19,296,000
Mumyuka Nakifuma (Kyaggwe) – Shs 12,500,000
Mutuba 20 Bukakata (Buddu) – Shs 6,934,000
Nsibirwa commended the leaders and communities for their commitment to the Kingdom, urging them to continue working with honesty and integrity.
“Leadership that is rooted in truth, service, and respect will always earn the trust of the people,” he said.
The Minister for Local Governments, Kabaka’s Tours, and Buganda Affairs Outside the Kingdom, Joseph Kawuki, expressed gratitude to the Kabaka’s subjects for their continued participation in the Kingdom’s programs. He noted that such active involvement is vital in restoring Buganda to its former glory.
“The spirit of unity and participation among the Kabaka’s subjects is what will drive Buganda’s socio-economic transformation,” Kawuki said.
Meanwhile, Dr. Phiona Nakalinda Kalinda, the Second Deputy Chief of Kyaddondo County, cautioned the youth to avoid risky behaviors during the upcoming holiday season that could expose them to HIV/AIDS and other health risks.
Several leaders who attended the oluwalo handover thanked His Majesty the Kabaka for inspiring unity and development across Buganda. They pledged to continue supporting initiatives that promote culture, education, and community well-being.
The contributions, totaling Shs 69,410,000, will go toward various Kingdom development initiatives aimed at strengthening service delivery and improving livelihoods across Buganda.
