Katikkiro Mayiga Urges Resilience and Unity Following Niece Emily Musoke’s Passing

The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has called on mourners to embrace resilience and let go of resentment in the face of life’s challenges, following the passing of his niece, Emily Caroline Nambi Musoke, daughter of his late elder brother Flugensio Musoke.

Musoke passed away from cancer-related illnesses in London, United Kingdom, on September 30, 2025, at the age of 57.

Speaking during the burial mass at Kyamuyimbwa Village, Buddu, in Masaka District on Saturday, Mayiga urged attendees to maintain inner strength despite hardships.

“Having problems does not mean we should resent others; rather, we must find ways to endure and overcome them. The world presents us with many challenges, and we all experience struggles, illness, and loss. Emily, through her courage and resilience, has left us a powerful lesson in steadfastness and perseverance, even as she endured her own grief,” he said.

Mayiga also emphasized the importance of kinship and friendship, stating, “Truly, the greatest treasures in life are family and friendship. Family gives us our roots, and friendship nurtures us, strengthening the bonds among people.”

He praised the deceased for her warm demeanor, noting how her kindness and cheerful presence inspired those around her, encouraging others to face life’s difficulties without bitterness. Mayiga further advised Musoke’s children to take time to mourn but to remain strong and recognize that death is a natural part of life.

Emily Musoke’s uncle, Richard Dick Muwanga, highlighted her strong faith and moral integrity, which shaped her life and actions. Her mother, Bernadette Musoke, visibly frail, expressed deep gratitude to all who supported her through this difficult period, from her daughter’s passing to the funeral arrangements.
