“Security officers must handle citizens in a manner that upholds human dignity and protects human rights, especially during this politically charged period,” he said.

Mayiga noted that the election period had so far been peaceful compared to 2021 until recent incidents, where soldiers arrested NUP supporters in ways that shocked many Ugandans.

He cautioned against excessive force, emphasizing that the charges against some politicians were not severe enough to justify humiliation or brutality.

He particularly condemned acts of indecency, including reports of women being harassed and undressed during arrests.

“Acts of indecency such as harassing or undressing women are illegal and unacceptable. Officers must not break the law while enforcing it,” Mayiga said.

At the same time, the Katikkiro appealed to politicians to conduct their campaigns peacefully and avoid trading insults.

He called for calm during and after the elections to prevent violence similar to recent incidents in Tanzania.

Mayiga also urged the people of Buganda to focus on electing capable and committed leaders who can advance both the kingdom’s and the country’s development agenda.

During the event, participants raised Shs112 million as part of their Luwalo contribution to support kingdom activities and initiatives.
