The High Commission of the Republic of Uganda in the United Republic of Tanzania hosted a colourful and vibrant celebration on Sunday to mark Uganda’s 63rd Independence Anniversary, reaffirming the enduring bonds of friendship, cooperation, and shared prosperity between the two neighboring nations.

The event, held at the Uganda High Commission in Dar es Salaam, brought together senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, the business community, Ugandans in the diaspora, and friends of Uganda to commemorate more than six decades of freedom, unity, and national progress.

Representing the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, Cosato Chumi, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, congratulated Uganda on this significant milestone. He commended the strong bilateral relations that continue to flourish under the Uganda–Tanzania Joint Permanent Commission (JPC)established in 2017, which provides a structured framework for cooperation in key sectors such as trade, infrastructure, energy, and security.

The event was also graced by the Secretary General of the East African Community (EAC), Veronica Nduva who joined dignitaries in celebrating the enduring partnership between Uganda and Tanzania and the broader spirit of East African integration.

In his keynote address, Col. (Rtd.) Fred Mwesigye, High Commissioner of the Republic of Uganda to the United Republic of Tanzania, reflected on the deep-rooted friendship and shared history between the two nations, founded on mutual respect, solidarity, and a common vision for regional development.

“Uganda’s 63rd Independence Anniversary is a reminder of the deep blood ties and historic cooperation between our two nations,” Mwesigye said.

“Tanzania has remained a steadfast partner to Uganda in political, economic, and social spheres.”

He further expressed appreciation to the Government and people of Tanzania for their unwavering partnership in advancing regional development through joint initiatives that promote peace, trade, and the well-being of citizens in both countries.

The celebration also offered guests an immersive cultural experience, featuring traditional Ugandan music and dance performances and a rich culinary showcase of Ugandan delicacies such as Matooke, Kalo, Malakwang, and Luwombo.

The lively evening captured the spirit, warmth, and diversity of Uganda—aptly known as the “Pearl of Africa.”

The 63rd Independence Anniversary celebration in Dar es Salaam served as a testament to the strong and growing partnership between Uganda and Tanzania, anchored in peace, unity, and shared aspirations for sustainable prosperity across the East African region.
