The Director of State House Political Mobilisation, Robert Rwakandare, has urged members of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) to conduct issue-based mobilisation and avoid politics grounded in tribal or religious divisions.
Speaking during a Tuesday engagement meeting with members of the Ibanda District NRM mobilising team at Golden Hotel in Ibanda Municipality, Rwakandare emphasised that divisive politics threatens unity and peaceful coexistence among Ugandans.
“Politics based on religion or tribe can make people hate each other even after elections,” Rwakandare cautioned. “We must build our politics on ideas, service, and shared national goals,not on what divides us.”
He added that politicians who use religion and tribe to gain support should be isolated.
“Those who use religion to seek political advantage should be avoided and neglected. Such leaders sow seeds of hatred instead of development,” he said.
Jovrine Kaliisa Kyomukama, the NRM Chairperson for Ibanda District, also called on party mobilisers to remain disciplined and respectful during their engagements with the public.
“Let’s not harass people who don’t support us,” Hon. Kaliisa said. “As NRM mobilisers, our role is to persuade, not to intimidate. We must win hearts through our actions and message, not through hostility.”
The meeting was part of ongoing efforts by the State House Political Mobilisation Directorate to strengthen the NRM’s grassroots structures ahead of future political activities.
