“In our assessment, the presidential public meetings have been well attended. To the best of my observation, most of the candidates have tried to stick to the program that was agreed upon together with the Electoral Commission guidelines,” Opondo said.

The former Uganda Media Centre (UMC) Executive Director emphasised that the NRM’s campaign strategy in this electoral season is firmly anchored on the party’s grassroots structures, marking a shift from the centralised campaign model used in previous elections.

“Our campaign this time round is anchored on the party structures. Previously, we used to have a national campaign taskforce, which we don’t have this time. The district committees of the NRM are in charge of the campaigns,” he said.

Opondo praised the district-level leadership for taking ownership of the mobilisation process, saying the new approach has strengthened the link between the party’s top leadership and its supporters at the local level.

The NRM, under the stewardship of President Yoweri Museveni, continues to traverse the country engaging citizens on the party’s achievements and manifesto commitments ahead of the January, 12th 2026 general presidential and parliamentary elections.
