UPDF Troops Urged to Uphold Discipline While in Somalia 

Troops of Battle Group 45 (BGXLV) have been reminded to maintain the highest standards of discipline and professionalism as they prepare to deploy for a peacekeeping mission in Somalia.

The call was made by Brigadier General Fred Mwesigye, acting Commander of the 1 Infantry Division, during the closing ceremony of a two-week pre-mission ideology course held at the International Peace Support Operations Training Centre (IPSO-TC) in Nakaseke District.

Mwesigye emphasized that discipline remains the cornerstone of effective military operations, urging the contingent to uphold integrity, loyalty, and respect in the execution of their duties.

“There is no shortcut to success. Maintain discipline at all times,” he said, adding that good health and financial prudence are equally essential for a soldier’s personal and professional development.

The Commandant of IPSO-TC, Colonel Moses Nabaasa, congratulated the officers and men upon completing the intensive course, commending their commitment, dedication, and discipline throughout the training period.

Speaking on behalf of the contingent, Lieutenant Colonel Morris Kyatooko Twongeirwe, the Deputy Commander of Battle Group 45, assured that the troops are fully prepared for the mission and pledged to safeguard the values instilled during the training.

The event was attended by the Chief Instructor, senior officers, and junior staff of IPSO-TC, who joined in commending the battle group for their readiness to represent the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) in international peace support efforts.

Battle Group 45 is expected to join the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), where Ugandan troops continue to play a vital role in promoting regional peace and stability.
