The Minister of State for Regional Affairs, John Mulimba, on Tuesday afternoon received the United States Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. William Popp, who led a delegation from the U.S. House of Representatives’ Foreign Affairs Committee (HFAC) to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kampala.
Ambassador Popp was accompanied by senior officials including Christina Tsafoulias, Senior Professional Staff Member on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and Michael McCabe, the U.S. Navy House of Representatives Liaison Officer.
The team held discussions with Mulimba, who represented the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Henry Oryem Okello, on issues of mutual concern.
Talks centered on Uganda’s role in promoting stability and regional security, with a particular focus on the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes Region.
Both sides reaffirmed the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation in advancing peace and addressing regional challenges.
Speaking after the meeting, Ambassador Popp praised Uganda’s contributions to peace and security across the continent, striving for regional stability and humanitarian priorities.
“The United States greatly values Uganda’s leadership in fostering regional stability. From peacekeeping contributions to active engagement in diplomatic initiatives, Uganda continues to play a vital role in advancing collective security across Africa,” said Popp.
“Our discussions underscore the strong partnership between the United States and Uganda. We are committed to deepening cooperation on peace and security, strengthening democratic institutions, and supporting the aspirations of the Ugandan people.
Mulimba welcomed the U.S. delegation and underscored Uganda’s commitment to regional peace, noting that collaboration with international partners is essential in addressing cross-border threats such as terrorism, conflict, and instability.
The visit by the U.S. delegation highlighted the continued engagement between Kampala and Washington, with a shared vision of promoting peace, security, and sustainable development in East Africa.
