Busoga East Police have concluded a three-day training program aimed at equipping officers with skills to manage public disorder during the 2026 election season.
The exercise, held at Busoga University playground in Iganga, brought together 200 officers of different ranks, ranging from police constable (PC) to senior superintendent of police (SSP). It was conducted under the leadership of senior regional officials and police commanders from all six districts that make up Busoga East.
According to Busoga East Regional Police Commander, SSP Senyonjo Abasa, the training was designed to enhance officers’ preparedness for handling unrest that often arises during political seasons.
“You know we are in a political season, and it attracts a lot of crimes and disobedience by the public. The motive of training our officers is to set them ready to handle such circumstances,” Abasa said.
The training focused on four key objectives: ensuring operational readiness for anticipated election-related challenges, assessing manpower strengths and gaps, strengthening inter-unit coordination, and reassuring the public of the police’s capacity to combat electoral violence.
Among the activities carried out were physical fitness drills, live shooting range exercises, and public order management practices, including the use of teargas and shields.
Police officials said the first batch of trained officers marks the beginning of a broader effort to reinforce security across the region before the 2026 polls.
