Rubaga North Member of Parliament aspirant Singh Parminder has expressed confidence that the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) will regain political dominance in Kampala during the 2026 General Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.
Speaking on NBS Morning Breeze on Tuesday, Singh reassured voters that the party has learned from its setbacks in the 2021 polls and is now better positioned to secure victory in the upcoming elections.
“Kampala was red in 2020, but I can guarantee you that red has faded. We didn’t take our loss in Kampala in 2021 lightly,” Singh said.
“Next year, Kampala will be yellow.”
During the 2021 elections, NRM suffered significant losses in Kampala and across the wider Buganda region, where the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) made substantial gains, securing the majority of parliamentary seats in the area.
Singh argued that the opposition has failed to meet voter expectations, a factor he believes will pave the way for NRM’s resurgence.
“There is nothing NUP has done. Some of their MPs haven’t even appeared before their constituents. That’s not what they promised,” he said.
“The problem with Ugandan politicians, especially the opposition, is that they think they must oppose everything. For example, where have you seen the Lord Mayor come out to say let’s work together for the betterment of Kampala?” he questioned.
He also highlighted the government’s efforts in improving road infrastructure, which he said have addressed one of Kampala residents’ major concerns, reinforcing NRM’s manifesto ahead of the 2026 elections.
“The roads were one of the major concerns of the Kampala people, and this has been handled. I can say that almost 60% of the roads have been worked on in this term,” Katongole noted.
His remarks come amid continued NRM campaigns to rebuild and consolidate its influence in the Buganda sub-region through initiatives in infrastructure, healthcare, and education.
