Govt Launches 6.6MW Nyagak 3 Hydropower Plant in Zombo
The new power plant is expected to boost electricity supply and provide backup support for the West Nile region, including Nebbi, Arua, and Madi Okollo districts.

The Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Ruth Nankabirwa Sentamu, is scheduled to launch the 6.6-megawatt Nyagak 3 Hydropower Plant today in Zombo District.

The facility, located in the West Nile sub-region, is expected to enhance electricity supply to Zombo, Nebbi, Arua, Madi Okollo, and surrounding districts by supplementing power from the national grid.

According to ministry officials, the Nyagak 3 plant will also serve as a critical backup source in the event of disruptions or blackouts on the national grid, thereby improving the region's energy reliability.

The commissioning of the plant marks a significant milestone in Uganda’s effort to expand its renewable energy infrastructure and ensure stable power distribution to underserved regions.
