It’s heartbreaking that the wife of a former legislator is in this condition and has been abandoned. We appeal to any relevant authority, especially the Speaker Anita Among and Members of Parliament, to step in and help Fatuma get treatment so she can recover and take care of her children

Fatuma Nanfuka, the widow of the late Kawempe North legislator Muhammad Ssegirinya, has appealed to the government and well-wishers for urgent medical support as she battles a severe kidney-related illness.

Currently bedridden at her sister Miriam Kasirye’s home, Nanfuka has reportedly been in critical condition since mid-June.

According to Kasirye, her sister’s health has deteriorated, and she has yet to receive any medical assistance from the government or Parliament since the passing of her husband.

“She has never been the same since his death. She has been in a terrible state since June 13,” Kasirye told Sanyuka TV on Wednesday.

Kasirye urged the government, Parliament, and Speaker Anita Among to intervene and provide the necessary medical aid.

Muhammad Ssegirinya, widely known for his activism and outspoken political views, passed away in January 2025 after a prolonged illness.

His death left behind widows, including Fatuma Nanfuka.

Since his passing, concerns have emerged over the welfare of his family, particularly regarding the lack of institutional support for his surviving spouses and children.
