Speaker of Parliament Annet Anita Among has intensified her grassroots mobilisation efforts in the Lango Sub-region as she seeks to consolidate support for her bid to become the Second National Vice Chairperson (Female) of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Central Executive Committee (CEC).

On Friday, Among’s campaign team led by Otuke East MP Julius Achon held a series of strategic meetings with party delegates in the districts of Oyam, Kole, and Lira.

Achon, who is spearheading the mobilisation drive in the region, described Among’s candidacy as a symbol of transformative leadership focused on inclusivity, service delivery, and national unity.

“This is a new wave of leadership that prioritizes every region. Speaker Among understands the issues of our people and is committed to amplifying their voices at the highest level,” said Achon while addressing NRM delegates in Oyam.

Bosco Onyik Ogwal, the NRM district chairperson for Oyam said the delegates in the region should rally behind a candidate who has consistently engaged with grassroots communities.

“Her approach is people-centred. That’s the kind of leader the NRM needs at the CEC level. As a region lets support someone who will always remember us,” said Onyik.

Benson Dilla Oyuku, the LC5 Chairperson of Oyam District, emphasized the importance of supporting leaders who have consistently stood with the people.

“Speaker Among has demonstrated commitment to northern Uganda. She listens, she acts, and she delivers. We have confidence in her leadership and we are ready to support her fully,” he said.

Among, who became Speaker of Parliament in 2022, is contesting for one of the most influential positions in the party’s top leadership structure. The Second National Vice Chairperson (Female) sits on the NRM’s Central Executive Committee, which is responsible for shaping the party's national agenda and strategy.

Patrick Okwir, the Speaker of Lira City Council, also declared full support for Among’s bid, emphasizing the need for a strong female voice at the core of party decision-making.

“This is not just about Lango. It’s about giving the north a voice at the CEC level. We are fully behind her. We need to elect a leader who still has fresh ideas for a region like Lango,” said Okwir.

The mobilisation tour in Lango is part of a broader campaign ahead of the NRM internal elections scheduled for next month.

More district engagements are expected as Among continues to seek endorsements across the districts in Lango Sub-region
