Hoima district local government has engaged the Kibiro community members and leaders of Kiganja sub county on the collection of revenue from Kibiro Tourism sites.

During the community engagement meeting held on Monday 30th June 2025, the Hoima Vice Chairperson Hellen Mulumba who represented the District Chairman Uthuman Mugisha Kadiri urged the local community to cooperate with the District on streamlining the revenue collection mode from the tourism proceeds which will benefit both the residents and the government for better service delivery.

Jackson Mulindambula the area councilor said that streamlining revenue collection from all the tourism sites in Kibiro will pave the way for further developments in the area and also resolve conflicts surrounding the resource sharing between the indigenous community and other stakeholders.

Veronica Mbahenzireki the Hoima District Tourism Officer said the district will ensure that local people have continued to benefit from the tourism site revenue as established in the tourism policy and guidelines. Some of the tourism sites in Kiganja sub county include the Kibiro salt gardens and the Kibiro hot springs.

The Hoima Assistant RDC Shafiq Ntuuyo urged all stakeholders to refrain from politicizing the issues of developing the Kibiro Tourism sites.

"Let's cooperate with the leaders and the government if we want to benefit for the resources" he stated

Residents welcomed the initiative of taking the revenue collection by the Hoima district local government. However, they asked for total inclusion in terms of being considered for a return percentage on the revenue collections.

The meeting was attended by Hoima district local government technical staff, leaders, local conservationists and residents.
