Sheema Municipality Member of Parliament Dickson Kateshumbwa on Saturday hosted a meeting of National Resistance Movement (NRM) delegates from across Sheema District, who unanimously endorsed Speaker of Parliament Anita Among to contest for the position of Second NRM National Vice Chairperson (Female).
The delegates are meeting at Kateshumbwa’s home, where the mood was buoyant and the endorsement passed without dissent.
Speaker Among, who is widely expected to seek re-election to her Bukedea Woman MP seat in 2026, is also angling for a stronger foothold within the NRM’s top leadership.
After the endorsement, the delegates and party supporters were scheduled to converge at Sheema playground for a public rally.
Here, Speaker Among is expected to interact with supporters and consolidate her message of party unity and national development under the NRM banner.
The event also served as a launch pad for MP Kateshumbwa’s own campaign for re-election in 2026.
A former Uganda Revenue Authority Commissioner and a prominent NRM figure in western Uganda, Kateshumbwa is expected to campaign on a platform of service delivery and economic empowerment.
Speaker Among has in recent months intensified her grassroots engagements ahead of the NRM internal elections and the 2026 general polls.
Her presence in Sheema is seen as part of a wider mobilisation strategy, building alliances across the country.
Sheema District is a stronghold of the ruling party, and Saturday’s events reinforced the NRM’s dominance in the area as internal campaigns begin to gather steam.
