Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is observed by millions of Muslims around the world as a period of fasting, prayer, and deep reflection.

In a bid to ease the hardships faced by vulnerable communities during the holy month, the Muslim World League has launched a significant Ramadan food basket distribution initiative across Kampala, Luwero, and Busoga.

The programme is set to benefit an estimated 2,000 families, including urban refugees from Somalia, Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is observed by millions of Muslims around the world as a period of fasting, prayer, and deep reflection.

It is also a time for increased charitable giving, with many communities coming together to support those in need.

Recognizing the importance of this spirit of generosity, the initiative aims to provide essential food items—such as rice, sugar, and cooking oil—that are vital for preparing meals during the daily fast.

At the launch event, which was attended by Uganda’s Ambassador to Sudan Rashid Yahaya Ssemuddu and other prominent leaders, Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Uganda Mohammed Bin Khalil Faloudah emphasized the Kingdom’s commitment to humanitarian aid.

“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia remains committed to supporting vulnerable communities worldwide. This initiative reflects our continued cooperation with the government of Uganda in ensuring relief reaches those in need,” he said.

His remarks underscored not only the significance of the event but also the broader international support for humanitarian efforts in Uganda.

The distribution comes at a critical time as many families face rising food prices and economic uncertainties.

The Muslim World League stressed that the provision of these food baskets is more than just a means to alleviate immediate hunger; it is a gesture of solidarity and a reaffirmation of the values of compassion and community that define Ramadan.

As the holy month continues, the initiative is expected to inspire further acts of kindness and unity within the community, ensuring that even the most vulnerable members of society can observe Ramadan with dignity and hope.
