Museveni appoints Esther Nambayo as Court’s Chief Registrar

President Museveni has appointed Court of Appeal registrar, Esther Nambayo as the Chief Registrar for Uganda’s courts of judicature, the Nile Post has learnt.

In an August 7 letter to the chairperson of the Judicial Service Commission, Justice Benjamin Kabito, Museveni has used his powers vested to him as the president by article 145(2) of the constitution to appoint Nambayo.

“I hereby appoint Ms. Nambayo Esther as Chief Registrar for the courts of judicature,” reads in part Museveni’s letter copied to the Head of Public Service.

In an August 27 letter by Justice Kabiito to Nambayo, he confirms her appointment before asking the Permanent Secretary or secretary to the Judicial Service Commission to attend to the administrative and other formalities required to formalize the appointment.

Prior to her new appointment, Nambayo had served as the Chief Magistrate at Makindye chief magistrate’s court.

She has also served as the Deputy registrar of Land Division, Constitutional Court registrar and also the Court of Appeal deputy registrar.

Nambayo replaces Paul Gadenya Wolimbwa who was appointed as a justice of the High Court by President Museveni early this year.

She is the second female Chief Registrar of the judiciary after Justice Flavia Anglins Ssenoga.

The Chief Registrar’s office has since Gadenya’s appointment been occupied by Isaac Muwata who has been in acting capacity.
