Former Minister for Trade Amelia Kyambadde who is now a senior presidential advisor on industries has urged Members of Parliament (MPs) to sensitize, create awareness and monitor their constituents to participate in the ongoing government programs especially the Parish Development Model (PDM).
The former Minister noted that most people in the rural areas are still illiterate on most of the programs that should have benefited them.
“I would like to call upon the MPs to take a keen interest in some of these government programs because one you don’t tap into them; Ugandans will not benefit from it and this my call before I get into more development programs” Kyambadde called MPs.
she made remarks during a three-day skilling training program targeting women, girl child at Katende playground, Kasanje town council in Wakiso.
The training that attracted over 500 learners focused on equipping skills and empower women, girls and youth in the area as way of eradicating poverty and unemployment.
The learners were equipped hand made skills to manufacture soap, Vaseline, liquid substances, cakes among others that can locally employ and generate income for them.
Kyambadde advised residents to start small scale industries projecting the near future sustainable programs that may lead to the expansion and growth income.
“We have partnered with MTAC as directed by the president to train Ugandans especially low-income earners to how to boost their living standards through life skilling projects.”
According to the trainers, residents of Kasanje highly participated in the soft skills program and called on the government to establish the Presidential skilling hub as it does to other areas of the country.
“People have come here to be skilled and others were still coming even from far but we appeal to President Museveni to establish a skilling hub in our area to empower our people” Elizabeth Nabulo a trainer stated.
The former Member of Parliament for Mawokota urged people stop politicizing empowerment projects saying it affects service delivery.
She emphasized that she will stand again in 2026 as a Member of Parliament.
“I appeal to my people of Mawokota to heal hearts, stop political fights, I have gotten a chance to rest but I promise I have come now in high gear to represent my people again; I am fresh and strong .
