The Electoral Commission has adjusted the campaign period and the polling dates for elections in the new Municipalities, Town Councils and Sub Counties.

In a press statement released by Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon, the Chairperson Electoral commission, the revision of polling dates for Elections in seven new municipalities; of Apac , Sheema, Kotido , Nebbi , Bugiri, Njeru and Ibanda was eminent  “to provide enough time between the various levels of elections”.

Polling and Tallying of results for elections in new Sub Counties, Town Councils and Municipal Divisions for Directly-elected Councilors, Women Councillors, Division Chairpersons, Division Directly-elected Councilors and  Division Women Councillors previously slated for 17th will be conducted on 24th July 2018.

Polling and Tallying of results of elections in new Municipalities for Member of Parliament, Municipal Directly-elected Councillors ,Municipal Women Councillors , Municipal Chairpersons and Councillors earlier slated for 19th July , will be conducted on 27th July 2018.

Polling and tallying of results for special interest groups at Municipal level and Sub County, Town & Municipal Division will be held 13th July 2018 and 19th July respectively.

On September 3, 2015, parliament approved the creation 23 districts and 19 new municipalities twelve of which became effective on July 1, 2015 and the other districts municipalities were effected this financial year.

The motion was  tabled by the then minister of Local Government, Adolf Mwesige  with 196 MPs voting for, six against and three abstaining from, Mwesige then said that it was considered necessary to create the districts for effective administration of those areas and to bring services closer to the people.
