It was jointly led by NRM National Treasurer Barbara Nekesa Oundo and the party’s Director of Mobilisation, Rosemary Nansubuga Seninde.

Party officials said the engagement is part of a broader effort to enhance leadership capacity, improve campaign preparedness and equip women with knowledge of electoral processes ahead of the polls.

Speaking during the session, Amb Nekesa underscored the importance of women’s role in the party and national development, saying they remain central to political mobilisation and governance structures.

“Women are the backbone of our communities and our movement,” Amb. Nekesa said. “This meeting is about equipping them with the tools, knowledge, and confidence they need to contest and win positions at all levels.”

She added that the NRM remains committed to promoting inclusive leadership, noting that empowering women to take up elective positions is key to strengthening both the party and national decision-making processes.

Dr. Seninde, who has long been involved in grassroots mobilisation, emphasised the need for structured preparation and strategic engagement by women leaders as they prepare for campaigns.

“We must move away from politics of chance to politics of preparation,” Dr. Seninde said. “I urge all women leaders to focus on issue-based campaigns, strengthen their community networks, and effectively use digital platforms to reach voters.”

She further highlighted that effective mobilisation, communication skills and understanding of electoral laws are critical for women seeking leadership positions in the upcoming elections.

Discussions at the meeting focused on electoral laws and nomination procedures, campaign resource mobilisation, public speaking and media engagement, and building strong support networks within party structures and constituencies.

Participants also examined challenges facing women in politics, including cultural stereotypes, financial constraints and limited access to campaign structures.

Party officials said the initiative aligns with the NRM’s broader strategy to increase women’s representation in leadership positions and promote inclusive governance.

They noted that empowering female politicians is central to the party’s long-term development agenda.

Several participants welcomed the training, describing it as timely and impactful. They said it improved their understanding of the electoral process and boosted their confidence ahead of the campaigns.

The NRM leadership indicated that more capacity-building workshops will be rolled out in the coming months as part of sustained preparations for the elections, with a focus on strengthening women’s leadership at all levels of governance.
