Police Speak in Tongues on Anita Among Probe
The Uganda Police Force has declined to provide detailed updates on investigations linked to former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, saying the matter remains active and that information will be released at the appropriate time.

The Uganda Police Force has maintained a guarded stance over ongoing investigations involving former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, offering limited details about the status and scope of the probe nearly a month after it began.

Responding to journalists on Monday, Police Spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke confirmed that an operation had taken place but declined to disclose detailed findings.

“Journalists were very close to the area of operation. Some even have more information than me. Yes, there was an operation. Exhibits were obtained from scenes of interest. Some were extracted in the open, but there may be others you are not privy to. At an appropriate time, you will be informed,” Rusoke said.

The investigation, conducted by a joint team of the Uganda Police Force and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), reportedly involved coordinated searches at residences linked to Among in Kampala and Bukedea, as well as her office at Parliament.

Authorities are reportedly examining the acquisition of assets linked to the former Speaker, including whether they align with declared sources of income, compliance with statutory disclosure requirements to the Inspectorate of Government, and whether any properties or funds may have been concealed through financial arrangements.

Security personnel remain deployed at some of the properties under scrutiny, though police have not clarified the duration or purpose of the deployment.

When asked about the continued presence of security at the properties, Rusoke said it depended on the needs of investigating officers.

“As a former Speaker, she is entitled to security. However, if investigating officers still have interest, they will maintain presence. If not, they will withdraw,” he said, adding that deployment remains within legal procedure.

He also said he had no verified information regarding reports that Margaret Etilu, the Amuria District Woman Member of Parliament, had been detained in connection with the operation.

“I have no information about the Amuria Woman MP at the moment. I cannot comment without verification. If I get the information, I will inform you,” Rusoke said.

The police have indicated that further updates will be provided once investigative processes are concluded or when it is deemed appropriate to release additional information.
