Police in Nakasongola District are investigating a disturbing case of child abduction after a three-year-old child identified as Yanik Balema son to Jameson Shaka was reported missing on the night of August 6th.
The incident occurred around 9:00 PM in Nabiswera Village, Kyangogolo Parish, Nabiswera Sub-county. According to the preliminary police report, the child disappeared from the family compound while playing with a sibling.
It is alleged that an unidentified person approached the children, distracted them with sweets, and gave the older sibling a Shs 500 coin to buy biscuits.
Upon returning, the sibling found that the younger child had vanished.
The child’s parents, who were inside the house at the time, immediately alerted local authorities and police, prompting a swift response. Investigations began at once, including searches across surrounding areas and neighboring villages, as well as motorized patrols on nearby roads.
ASP Sam Twiineamazima, the Savannah Region Police spokesperson, confirmed that the case is under active investigation and urged members of the public to remain vigilant.
“We call on anyone with information about the whereabouts of the child or the suspect to come forward. Public cooperation is critical to ensuring the safe return of the child,” he stated.
The community is on high alert as police intensify efforts to trace the suspect and reunite the child with their family.
