President Museveni is today expected to deliver the State of the Nation Address to Parliament and the country, marking the first such address in the current term of both the President and the 12th Parliament.
The State of the Nation Address is provided for under Article 101(1) of the Constitution, which requires the President, at the beginning of each session of Parliament, to present an address on the state of the nation.
The sitting, which marks the start of the first session of Parliament, will be held at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds starting at 2pm.
Attendance has been restricted to Members of Parliament, parliamentary staff, and a limited number of invited guests, in line with public health guidelines aimed at preventing the spread of Ebola.
According to the Order Paper for the 3rd Sitting of the 1st Meeting of the 1st Session of the 12th Parliament of Uganda, proceedings will begin with the National Anthem and the East African Community Anthem, followed by prayers.
Speaker of Parliament Jacob Marksons Oboth-Oboth will then make a formal proclamation and communication from the Chair before inviting the President to deliver the address in accordance with constitutional requirements.
After the address, the House will adjourn, with proceedings concluding through the singing of the national anthems in reverse order.
Members of the public who will not attend in person will be able to follow the address through selected radio and television stations as well as online platforms.
