Canal+ has launched a continent-wide campaign celebrating the impact of women across storytelling, sports and leadership as part of activities marking International Women's Month.
The campaign, titled “We are… because she is,” honours women whose voices and achievements continue to shape culture, communities and entertainment across Africa.
In a statement, the media group said women remain central to the growth of Africa’s entertainment industry, serving as actresses, directors, screenwriters and producers who bring depth and authenticity to productions enjoyed by millions of viewers.
Across Uganda and the wider region, female creatives are behind many popular television productions, from telenovelas and comedies to drama series aired on the CANAL+ network.
Beyond entertainment, the company also highlighted the influence of women in sport, noting their growing role as athletes, commentators and leaders across disciplines such as football, tennis and athletics.
As part of the initiative, Canal+ and its subsidiary MultiChoice have produced a 90-second promotional film in both English and French versions.
The film will be broadcast on the group’s television channels and digital platforms in more than 35 African countries, celebrating women whose creativity and resilience continue to influence the continent’s future.
Throughout the month, platforms including DStv and GOtv will showcase films, series, reality shows and other content that highlight women’s stories and achievements.
Audiences in Uganda can look forward to a lineup of locally produced series driven by strong female characters.
These include Loving Beyond, airing Monday to Friday at 8:30 pm on Pearl Magic Prime. The series follows women navigating loyalty, ambition, family expectations and forbidden love while challenging deep-rooted rivalries within their communities.
Another featured show is Crossroads, which airs Monday to Friday at 8:00 pm on the same channel. The drama explores ambition, betrayal and power struggles within Kampala’s competitive media industry, with strong female characters driving much of the storyline.
International Titles Highlighting Women
Viewers will also have access to several international productions centred on female empowerment and leadership.
These include Wonder Woman, starring Gal Gadot, and the female-led heist film Ocean’s Eight.
Other titles scheduled during the month include Say Yes to the Dress, Sister Wives, Be My Guest with Ina Garten, Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous, What Men Want, and Lucy, starring Scarlett Johansson.
The lineup also includes **All Elite Wrestling women’s matches on TNT Africa, showcasing female wrestlers leading high-energy in-ring storylines.
Through the campaign, Canal+ said it aims to celebrate women whose achievements continue to inspire households across Africa while promoting stories that reflect the diversity and complexity of modern womanhood.
