Uganda’s leading streaming platform, AfroMobile, will officially adopt a subscription-based model beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, April 1, 2025.
This update was announced by Kin Kariisa, the Group chief executive of Next Media Services, in a memo dated March 31, 2025.
With this change, AfroMobile users will need to subscribe to access and stream their favourite premium African content on the platform.
According to Kariisa, this transition aims to enhance the viewing experience by offering richer storytelling and exclusive content.
"This is a massive step forward for AfroMobile and Next Media. Let's ensure a smooth
transition together," Kariisa said.
What’s Changing?
As part of this new model, AfroMobile users in Uganda will pay a subscription fee of Shs9,900, while users in the diaspora will be charged $4.99 per month.
Users in Uganda can subscribe using MTN MoMo or Airtel Money. Meanwhile, those in the diaspora can make payments via Visa, Mastercard, UnionPay, Google Pay, or PayPal.
"It’s important to note that AfroMobile will still be accessible on Android TV, Android Mobile, Firestick, Apple TV, and iOS devices," Kariisa added.
The new subscription model promises an ad-free experience, high-quality streaming, exclusive content, and ongoing improvements for long-term platform sustainability.
Since its relaunch, AfroMobile has evolved into a dynamic hub for premium African content, featuring a sleek new design, faster streaming, and a variety of enhanced features to improve user experience.
Renowned for its extensive catalog of African content, AfroMobile is now more user-friendly, with simplified payment options and a seamless experience across all devices.
