In a vibrant celebration of academic achievement and community impact, Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) held a memorable graduation ceremony at Kihumuro grounds, where 1,615 students were awarded degrees and diplomas.

The event received accolades for the university's transformative role in societal development, with special commendations for its contributions to health awareness, agricultural innovation, and youth empowerment, marking a fitting tribute to outgoing Vice Chancellor Prof. Celestino Obua's decade of leadership.

Guest of honor Hajji Mukwatampola Muzamiru, representing the Minister of Education and Sports, commended MUST for its engagement in government-driven initiatives aimed at fostering community development.

“Your efforts can be seen through the successful graduation ceremonies held year in and year out. Through these initiatives, you are actively participating in community development,” he stated.

He specifically highlighted the university's innovative projects in agriculture, its pediatric cancer awareness campaign, and its efforts to combat drug abuse, which address often overlooked health challenges.

Chancellor Prof. Charles Mark Lwanga Olweny echoed these sentiments, praising Prof. Obua's transformative leadership over the past ten years.

“Prof. Obua has left a remarkable legacy in research, publications, and grant acquisitions,” he remarked, emphasizing the importance of the MUST Career Fair in connecting students with professional opportunities.

He urged graduates to utilize the skills and knowledge they gained to make a meaningful impact in their communities.

In his final graduation ceremony, Prof. Obua expressed gratitude for the support he received during his tenure, reflecting on his “interesting years” at MUST.

He thanked the University Council, the government, and Education Minister  Janet Museveni for their guidance and honored the memory of the late Ethel Kayizi, a student who had completed her studies but was awaiting graduation, and Ms. Flora Kyayemagye, an assistant lecturer.

The ceremony not only celebrated the graduates' accomplishments but also reinforced MUST's ongoing commitment to transforming society through education, innovation, and community engagement.
