MP Nalukoola's Aide Found After Two Days Missing

In a statement, NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya said Bitumu was abducted and held incommunicado before being dropped at Lugogo Bypass at around 4am.

The National Unity Platform (NUP) has said that Hussein Bitumu, an aide to Kawempe North legislator Elias Nalukoola, was found early Friday morning after being missing for two days.

In a statement, NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya said Bitumu was abducted and held incommunicado before being dropped at Lugogo Bypass at around 4am.

Rubongoya said Bitumu appeared deeply shaken after the incident and claimed he was mistreated during his detention.

The party did not immediately disclose details about his condition but said he was receiving medical care and support.

“This is yet another worrying incident involving the disappearance and mistreatment of government critics and associates of opposition leaders,” Rubongoya said, calling for accountability from security agencies.

NUP urged authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding Hussein’s disappearance and bring those responsible to account.

By the time of publication, security agencies had not issued any official comment regarding the allegations.

The incident comes amid continued concern from human rights groups over reports of unlawful detentions and intimidation of political actors in Uganda.

Opposition leaders have repeatedly called for stronger protection of citizens’ rights and adherence to due process.

NUP also appealed to the public and the international community to remain vigilant and join calls for accountability.
