According to police, the burglary occurred on the night of July 24, 2026, when unidentified suspects allegedly broke into the home of Benedicto Sentamu, 50, a resident of Kawungera LC I, Kawungera Parish, in Kiganda Town Council.
Investigators said the suspects drilled a hole through the wall of the victim's garage, gained entry and stole two motorcycles—a red Bajaj Boxer, registration number UGE 680G, and another motorcycle, registration number UMA 661LZ.
Police said the suspects later opened the main garage door from inside before fleeing with the motorcycles.
The theft was immediately reported to Kiganda Police Station, prompting detectives to visit the scene, document evidence and launch investigations.
Wamala Regional Police spokesperson SSP Lameck Kigozi said detectives recorded statements from the complainant and witnesses before analysing footage from the national CCTV surveillance system.
"Our officers responded promptly by visiting the scene, documenting the evidence and recording statements from the victim and witnesses. Investigations were then supported by CCTV analysis, which enabled us to trace the motorcycles," Kigozi said.
Police tracked the stolen motorcycles to Kyengera Town Council in Wakiso District, where an operation led to their recovery and the arrest of three suspects.
The suspects were identified as James Ssebuggwawo, 50, a resident of Nakiganda LC I, Kyamusota Ward, Kiganda Town Council, Kassanda District; Edward Kavuma, 31, a casual labourer from Kiyunga in Mukono District; and Yawe Musisi, 32, a boda boda rider from Nsangi in Wakiso District.
The suspects and the recovered motorcycles were transferred to Kiganda Police Station, where they remain in custody pending further investigations.
Kigozi said investigators are finalising the case file before forwarding it to the Resident State Attorney in Kassanda for legal guidance and sanction of charges of housebreaking and motorcycle theft.
"The suspects are currently undergoing further interviews, and once investigations are complete, the case file will be forwarded to the Resident State Attorney for sanction before they are produced in court," he said.
Kigozi credited the national CCTV network with strengthening police investigations and improving the recovery of stolen property.
"The use of CCTV technology has greatly strengthened our ability to investigate crime and apprehend suspects. Criminals should know that their chances of evading justice continue to diminish as surveillance systems become more effective," he said.
He warned would-be offenders that police remain committed to pursuing criminals and urged the public to respect the law.
"Anyone contemplating criminal acts should understand that there is a high likelihood of being arrested and prosecuted. We encourage members of the public to respect the law and avoid actions that endanger lives and property," Kigozi added.
Police said investigations are ongoing to establish whether more suspects were involved in the theft.
