Police in Kyankwanzi District have launched investigations after the body of an unidentified woman was discovered wrapped in bed sheets and abandoned along a roadside in Gayaza Sub-county, with authorities appealing to the public to help identify the deceased.

Police in Kyankwanzi District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an unidentified woman whose body was found abandoned along a feeder road in Gayaza Sub-county.

The body was discovered on July 14, 2026, by residents of Kisutwa Village along the Kiboga–Ntwetwe–Nkoko road, prompting an immediate police response.

According to police, Kisutwa Village Chairperson Charles Sempijja reported the incident to Gayaza Police Station at about 10:30am.

The Kyankwanzi District Police Command dispatched a homicide team to the scene, where officers processed the area and recorded statements from witnesses.

Wamala Regional Police spokesperson SSP Lamech Kigozi said the body was that of an adult woman believed to be in her twenties based on physical appearance. She was found wrapped in white bed sheets and abandoned by the roadside.

"Preliminary examination did not reveal any signs of physical violence," Kigozi said.

Police said the deceased had no identification documents, and preliminary findings suggest she may have died at a private health facility before her body was dumped at the scene.

The body was taken to the mortuary at Ntwetwe Health Centre IV for a postmortem examination and identification.

Police have appealed to members of the public who may be able to identify the deceased to report to Kyankwanzi Police Station.

"We appeal to anyone who may have information that can help identify the deceased to come forward and assist police with investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death," Kigozi said.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
