Police in Rubanda District are searching for a 17-year-old suspect accused of stabbing a 7-year-old nursery school pupil to death while the child was returning home from school in Kyokezo Parish.

Police in Rubanda District are hunting for a 17-year-old boy in connection with the killing of a seven-year-old nursery school pupil in Nyamweru Sub-county.

The incident occurred on Monday at around 6:00pm in Kyokezo Parish.

The deceased has been identified as Hosea Ainebyona, a pupil at Hamukobakoba Nursery School. Police say he was attacked while returning home from school.

The suspect, identified as Bureya Ainamani, a 17-year-old resident of the same parish and a peasant, is alleged to have stabbed the child with a suspected panga.

Kigezi Region Police spokesperson Nelson Tumushime confirmed the incident and said officers responded to the scene and documented evidence, but the suspect remains on the run.

“I want to caution parents to escort their young children, especially nursery learners, to and from school. To school administrators, put in place stronger measures to guarantee learner safety,” Tumushime said.

“Investigations are ongoing,” he added.

Police say efforts are underway to trace and arrest the suspect as the investigation continues.
