WAKISO — Police in Nsangi Division have launched investigations into a violent robbery incident captured in a video that has been widely shared on social media, showing a group of men armed with pangas attacking an individual in Wakiso District.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SSP Racheal Kawala, the attack occurred at around 2:00 a.m. on June 15, 2026, in Kigwanya Zone, Nabbingo Parish, Kyengera Town Council.
Preliminary police findings indicate that the victim was returning home from work with his girlfriend and heading to their residence when they were ambushed by a group of about seven men armed with pangas.
The attackers allegedly assaulted the victim and robbed him of his belongings before fleeing the scene.
The incident came to public attention after a video showing the attack began circulating on social media platforms, prompting concern among residents and calls for heightened security in the area.
Police at Nsangi Division have since taken up the case and commenced investigations to identify and apprehend the suspects involved.
“Our task team is making every effort to identify, trace and apprehend the suspects so they can be brought to justice,” Kawala said in a statement.
She noted that investigators are pursuing all available leads, including footage from the viral video, as they work to establish the identities of the attackers and reconstruct the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“Further updates will be communicated as investigations progress,” she added.
The latest attack has renewed concerns about violent robberies involving gangs armed with pangas, particularly in rapidly growing urban and peri-urban areas around Kampala.
Security agencies have in recent years intensified operations targeting criminal groups accused of carrying out night-time robberies and assaults in parts of the Kampala Metropolitan Area.
Police have urged members of the public with information that could assist investigations to report to the nearest police station or contact security authorities through established channels.
Investigators say efforts are ongoing to identify the suspects captured in the circulating footage and ensure they are brought to justice.
