ADJUMANI — Police in Adjumani District have arrested 13 suspects and impounded 14 motorcycles during an intelligence-led operation targeting suspected stolen motorcycles and those linked to cross-border criminal activity.

The operation, conducted at around 1:00 am on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, was carried out by officers from Adjumani Central Police Station (CPS) with support from sister security agencies.

Authorities said the crackdown focused on motorcycles suspected to have been stolen, those with altered registration numbers and others believed to be used in criminal operations within the district and border areas.

The exercise was supervised by the District Police Commander (DPC), SP Herbert Masembe.

According to police, the operation was triggered by intelligence gathered from members of the public who reported suspicious motorcycle-related activities in the area.

Speaking about the operation, North West Nile Region Police Public Relations Officer, SP Collins Asea said community information played a key role in identifying suspected criminal networks.

“This operation was intelligence-led and was conducted in response to information received from the public regarding suspected stolen motorcycles and criminal activities linked to some riders. We appreciate the cooperation of the community, whose information greatly contributed to the success of the operation,” SP Asea said.

He added that investigations are ongoing to verify ownership of the impounded motorcycles and determine whether any are linked to reported criminal cases.

“The suspects are currently being screened while verification of ownership documents for the motorcycles is underway. Those found innocent will be released, while anyone linked to criminal activities will be prosecuted in accordance with the law,” he said.

Police further urged motorcycle owners to maintain proper documentation and remain vigilant in reporting suspicious activities to security agencies.

SP Asea emphasized that community cooperation remains essential in combating crime, particularly motorcycle-related theft and cross-border trafficking.

“We encourage members of the public to continue sharing information with the police. Community participation remains critical in preventing crime and ensuring the safety of our communities,” he said.

Authorities said further updates will be provided as investigations and screening of the suspects continue.
