KAMPALA — The Ministry of Works and Transport has resumed maintenance works on the remaining 500-metre section of the Kampala Northern Bypass, specifically the Namungoona–Bwaise stretch, and directed the contractor to complete all outstanding works within three weeks.
In a public notice dated June 15, 2026, the Ministry said contractor Stirling Civil Engineering Ltd had already begun site preparations, including the installation of traffic management measures to ease movement during construction.
The notice was signed by Permanent Secretary Bageya Waiswa.
“The Ministry of Works and Transport informs the public that works on the remaining 500-metre section of the Namungoona–Bwaise section have resumed and are expected to be completed in a period not exceeding three (03) weeks from today,” the statement read.
The Ministry further instructed the contractor to intensify work schedules in order to meet the revised deadline.
“The Ministry has also instructed the contractor to ensure that all outstanding works are completed within the revised schedule, utilizing night shifts and off-peak hours,” the notice added.
The Kampala Northern Bypass is a key transport corridor connecting Kampala to major highways leading to Gayaza, Bombo and Hoima.
The Namungoona–Bwaise section has long been a congestion hotspot, drawing complaints from motorists due to delays and traffic build-up, especially during peak hours.
Although the Ministry did not disclose the reasons for the delay in completing the remaining works, it said the contractor is now under strict timelines to ensure delivery within the set period.
Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution and follow traffic management guidance as works continue along the corridor.
