The Ministry of Works and Transport has restarted repairs on a critical 500-metre stretch of the Kampala Northern Bypass, directing contractors to complete works within three weeks amid traffic management measures.

KAMPALA — The Ministry of Works and Transport has resumed maintenance works on the remaining 500-metre section of the Kampala Northern Bypass, specifically the Namungoona–Bwaise stretch, and directed the contractor to complete all outstanding works within three weeks.

In a public notice dated June 15, 2026, the Ministry said contractor Stirling Civil Engineering Ltd had already begun site preparations, including the installation of traffic management measures to ease movement during construction.

The notice was signed by Permanent Secretary Bageya Waiswa.

“The Ministry of Works and Transport informs the public that works on the remaining 500-metre section of the Namungoona–Bwaise section have resumed and are expected to be completed in a period not exceeding three (03) weeks from today,” the statement read.

The Ministry further instructed the contractor to intensify work schedules in order to meet the revised deadline.

“The Ministry has also instructed the contractor to ensure that all outstanding works are completed within the revised schedule, utilizing night shifts and off-peak hours,” the notice added.

The Kampala Northern Bypass is a key transport corridor connecting Kampala to major highways leading to Gayaza, Bombo and Hoima.
