Police Recover Firearm at Tausi Bus Terminal in Kampala

Police at Old Kampala have recovered a firearm at Tausi Bus Terminal, Bukesa Parish in Kampala Central Division, following a suspicious luggage incident involving a bus conductor and an unidentified passenger.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala, the incident occurred on April 14, 2026, at about 05:00am when a bus conductor, while loading passengers onto a bus bound for Mbarara, was approached by a man who requested that his luggage be transported.

The conductor reportedly carried out routine checks and asked the passenger to open the bag for inspection, but the passenger refused.

The refusal raised suspicion, prompting the conductor to physically inspect the luggage.

During the inspection, the conductor detected an object resembling a firearm and immediately alerted authorities. A police task team quickly responded to the scene and carried out further inspection.

Upon examination, an AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine and no ammunition was recovered.

The weapon had been concealed inside a white polythene bag, which was further placed inside another bag.

The suspect fled the scene and remains at large.

Police have since launched efforts to identify and apprehend him as investigations continue.

“Police responded swiftly after receiving information from the bus conductor, and upon inspection of the luggage, an AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine and no ammunition was recovered,” SP Kawala said.
